Renewing a license: 90 hours or 6 credits
The Nevada Department of Education (NDE) Office of Educator Licensure renews licenses. Under the regulation adopted as R088-23, renewal requires 90 clock hours, 6 semester credits, or an equivalent combination of the two in each licensure period. The regulation equates 1 semester credit with 15 clock hours.
Older licenses may follow older wording. NDE's renewal page still carries a "15 hours per year" statement for licenses issued before September 16, 2024. If your license predates that date, ask NDE which requirement applies to your renewal before you plan coursework.
Your renewal date and validity period are printed on your license. For how hours and credits relate in general, see clock hours, CEUs and semester credits.
How pay moves: district columns
Nevada districts set their own licensed salary schedules. Clark County School District (CCSD), the largest, uses Roman-numeral columns on its 2024-25 licensed salary table:
| Column | Education |
|---|---|
| I | BA |
| II | BA+16 |
| III | BA+32 |
| IV | MA |
| V | MA+16 |
| VI | MA+32 |
| VII | MA+48 |
| VIII | PhD |
| IX to XI | Further columns; read the table notes |
The same table notes that employees can also progress through CCSD's Professional Growth System (PGS) without degrees or college credits. Read the notes for columns IX to XI on the current table before you plan toward them. Moving across columns is explained in lane change, explained.

Each block cites the district's own published document where one has been checked. Items marked "confirm" are being verified for this guide.
Clark County School District
Submit a Request for Column Advancement by June 1 for the next contract year. Coursework must be complete by August 31, and documentation must be in ELMS by October 1; nothing time-stamped from 12:00 a.m. on October 2 counts. Advancement takes effect at the start of the contract year.

- Check your license issue date. If it is before September 16, 2024, ask NDE which renewal rule applies.
- For renewal, count 15 clock hours per semester credit toward the 90-hour total.
- For salary, open your district's current licensed salary table and read the column notes.
- In Clark County, put June 1, August 31 and October 1 in your calendar; all three matter.
- Ask HR in writing whether the specific course counts for column advancement. Keep the reply.
- Allow time for an official transcript to reach the district before its documentation date.
Clark County's October deadline is exact. Documentation time-stamped from 12:00 a.m. on October 2 does not count for that contract year.
